Lt. Col. Daniel W. Brodsky, CAP, of Clay has been named commander of the Civil Air Patrol’s Central New York Group.
He succeeds Lt. Col. Kenneth O. Field, an Air Force intelligence officer with the New York Air National Guard in Rome.
Brodsky has been deputy commander for the past year. Succeeding him in that position is Lt. Col. John Jones, CAP, of Utica.
New York Wing Commander Col. Jack Ozer officiated at a change of command ceremony, held July 21 at the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) mission base at Griffiss International Airport in Rome.
As group commander, Lt. Colonel Brodsky will work out of group headquarters at the New York Air National Guard Base at Hancock Field, Syracuse, and oversee six squadrons located in Utica, Rome, Syracuse, Fulton and Watertown.
Starting as a cadet 19 years ago, Brodsky has served in a diverse mix of command and staff assignments. In addition to serving as deputy group commander, he has been an assistant wing inspector general and a squadron commander. He also has been an instructor, training officer and director of professional development training courses. As a cadet he was named New York Wing Cadet of the Year. Since then he has earned five commander’s commendations and several officer awards, including being named Inspector of the Year.
In civilian life, Brodsky is a software engineer with SRC Inc. and is enrolled in graduate school at Utica College, working toward an M.S. in Cybersecurity-Intelligence and Forensics. He and his wife, Megan, have two young children.
Lt. Colonel Jones also is a long-time member, starting in CAP as a cadet in 1987. He has been assigned to a number of squadron and group staff positions, including serving as group inspector general and as commander of both the Utica and Syracuse squadrons.
Jones resides in Utica with his wife, Kimberly, and is a full-time member of the Air National Guard. A senior master sergeant, Jones is chief quality assurance inspector for the 174th Fighter Wing’s Maintenance Group at Hancock Field, Syracuse.
